Réiserbann

The Réiserbann Greens have submitted four written questions to the local council on key issues such as environmental protection, mobility and social policy. The issues we raised are particularly relevant and could not wait until the autumn in the interests of the residents of Réiserbann. We would therefore like to express our sincere gratitude to the administration, which has carried out a great deal of research to help the College of Aldermen answer these questions!

Questions from the Greens concerning national noise mapping:

Our questions were aimed at ensuring that, in addition to the existing measures along the A3 motorway and the railway line, measures are also taken along our main roads in the municipality. We would also like to see concrete measures put in place, such as subsidies for acoustic improvements to private homes, traffic calming and more greening. Noise and fine particles generated by motorised traffic reduce quality of life and damage health!

Questions from the Greens concerning the working conditions of socio-educational staff (SEA):

With the closure of the Maison Relais during part of the school holidays and the lack of staff in childcare facilities, the Réiserbann Greens proposed to the College of Aldermen that an anonymous survey be carried out among SEA staff, with the aim of improving the attractiveness of their work. The College of Aldermen agreed to carry out a survey of staff and parents, but wishes to maintain the principle of collective holidays in August. However, the Greens are calling for greater flexibility. Many parents do not have time off in August or prefer to go on holiday outside the high season for economic or practical reasons. August holidays, child care opening hours and the welfare of socio-educational staff are key issues for improving the work-life balance of parents on the one hand and socio-educational staff on the other.

Questions from the Greens on the closure of the Bettembourg-Luxembourg railway line:

The Réiserbann Greens have received critical comments from citizens concerning the replacement bus service during the closure of the railway line between Bettembourg and Luxembourg. The criticisms concern the lack of direct access between Berchem and Howald and the increase in journey time for commuters from 7 minutes to 25 minutes. Despite this, the College of Aldermen has judged the solution proposed by CFL to be satisfactory. This significant loss of time for commuters could lead some users to return to the car, which would increase individual traffic in the municipality. The Greens regret that the municipality did not intervene with the CFL to find a better solution or propose alternative solutions.

Questions from the Greens concerning the redevelopment of Rue des Ponts in Peppange:

The Greens support the transformation of Rue des Ponts into a 30 km/h zone. This is an improvement on the current situation and should lead to an acceptable reduction in traffic. However, the project does not yet offer an adequate solution for the PC6 national cycle path that crosses this street. For the safety of cyclists, the Greens are calling for structural measures to reduce traffic. We wonder whether it would not be possible to restrict this road to local residents, the inhabitants of Livange and Peppange, and public transport. We would like to avoid Rue des Ponts becoming an ‘on-ramp’ to the A3 motorway.

Compromise to buy a private house in the Grand-rue in Réiser for €2 million:

This house is located right next to the community centre, making it an attractive location. However, it still needs a lot of expensive renovation work, which we think makes it too expensive! The old post office building, which the College of Aldermen deemed too expensive a few years ago, would have ‘cost’ only €640,000. It seems to us that the majority now buys houses as soon as possible and at any price, like a game of Monopoly. However, it is important to keep funds available to pay bills and meet other commitments. For these reasons, we abstained. It would also be desirable if the municipality were soon to present a concrete plan of what it intends to do with the houses it has bought in recent years.
